Force Table Lab PowerPoint

Force Table Lab.ppt

Students use force tables to first predict and then test the product of two vectors. The lab sheet, equipment, and results are pictured in this powerpoint.

Materials: force tables (2 or 3), mass hangers(3 per force table), assorted masses (20g, 15g, 10g, 5g, 2g, 1g)

Force Table Lab Directions

This is the lab sheet. Diagrams and step by step instructions are included. The first page guides students towards a mathematical solution. The second page instructs the students to check their predictions and write their conclusions. I don't give students the second page until I've check the first page (see force table lab solutions.xls).

Force Table Lab Data

Each group of three students is given different data. Students use this document to sign up for groups and get their data.

Force Table Lab Answer Key

This worksheet has the solution for each group. I use this to assist students and grade labs.

Pendulum Lab Directions

pendulum lab.doc

Students use pendulums to calculate the acceleration due to gravity in the classroom.

Materials: motion sensors, string, heavy washers (or other pendulum bob), ringstands, and rulers.

Pendulum Pre-lab Worksheet

pendulum pre-lab.doc

Students play with pendulums and motion sensors to answer basic questions about simple harmonic motion. This can be done without motion sensors if the students are instructed to think about riding a swing.

Materials: motion sensors, string, heavy washers (or other pendulum bob), ringstands, and rulers.
